Oba of Benin tasks FRSC

Oba of Benin has urged the new Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Edo State, Mr. Kenneth Nwaegbe, to revive the Best Driver Competition for drivers in the state. Omo N’Oba Erediauwa told Nwaegbe, who visited him in his palace in Benin on Tuesday that the competition helped in checking recklessness driving in the state in the past.

Erediauwa, who donated a competition trophy, wondered why the event was abandoned, considering its advantages. “Recent previous sector commanders promised to revive the competition, but up till now nothing has been done,” he said. The monarch however commended FRSC’s Pidgin English programme aired on television stations, adding that it (programme) had changed some reckless drivers’ attitude in the state.

Earlier, Nwaegbe said he was in the palace to seek the support and blessing of the Oba. Nwaegbe said his major task was to see rampant crashes on roads minimised and deaths reduced. He said, “I want drivers and their passengers to get to their destinations safely; for this I want your blessing and support.”
